Editorial Standards

Last updated: August 2026

The Titan Standard is an independent Tennessee Titans publication. We are not affiliated with the Tennessee Titans, the National Football League, or any related entity. These standards govern how we source, verify, edit, and publish every piece of content on the site.

1. Independence

Our editorial decisions are made independently of any advertiser, sponsor, affiliate partner, or team executive. We do not accept payment, gifts, travel, or credentials in exchange for coverage. When we quote or cite another outlet's work we credit it inline and link back to the original source.

2. Sourcing

We prioritise first-party reporting: on-the-record interviews, verified press releases, official injury reports, league filings, and public game footage. Second-hand information (a report from another outlet) is attributed to that outlet in the first paragraph. We treat anonymous single-source claims as tips, not facts, until we can corroborate them.

3. Fact-Checking

Every article is read by an editor before publication. Statistics are checked against the primary source (Pro Football Reference, the NFL's official stats feed, or the team's game notes). Quotes are checked against the recording or transcript. Dates, contract terms, and injury statuses are verified against the league's official transaction and injury reports.

4. Distinguishing Analysis from News

Straight-news pieces (roster moves, injury updates, game recaps) are labelled Breaking News, Camp, or Game Notes. Opinion, analysis, and commentary are labelled Analysis, Film Room, or Column. The category chip on every article makes the type clear at a glance.

5. Corrections

If we get something wrong we fix it as soon as we can verify the mistake and we log the change. See our Corrections Policy.

6. Byline & Attribution

Every article carries the byline of the writer who reported and wrote it. Aggregated wire summaries are labelled "Staff" and link out to the underlying sources. Beat writer aggregation appears in a clearly-marked "Camp Wire" module and always attributes the originating outlet.

7. Conflicts of Interest

Writers must disclose any personal, financial, or family connection to Titans staff, players, agents, or team business partners. Disclosed conflicts are noted in the writer's byline or at the top of the article.

8. Generative Tools

Our writers use software to draft image captions, condense press releases, and format tables. Every published word is read, edited, and signed off by a human. We do not publish machine-written analysis or opinion.
